Over the past years I have been involved with several major theoretical and experimental efforts for information and systems security and have published more than 60 peer-refereed research papers in the area. Since I joined the School of Information Studies (iSchool) at Syracuse University in 2002, I have been awarded a total of $2,436,688 grants: $1,687,336 for ten different projects in research and $749,352 in education. I have also developed four new security courses and seven lab modules for the iSchool based on my expertise. I was the lead faculty member in developing the Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) in Information Security Management (ISM) for the iSchool. Currently, I am the director of the program. I established the Laboratory for Applied Information Security Technology (LAIST) at the school to perform practical research in information and systems security. I was nominated by the iSchool for the Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship (2004) as a young scientist in computer science (26 past Sloan Fellows have become Nobel Laureates). I have been serving as a key contributor to the high-technology economy of New York State, collaborating with the New York State Center for Advanced Technology in Computer Applications and Software Engineering (CASE). I have been contributing to the research community by serving as a program committee member or as chair for intensive research conferences, by serving as editor or reviewer for high-quality research journals, and by serving on review panels of grant proposals in the area. I served as an invited review panelist for the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) on Computer Science in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2008. While completing my doctoral study at George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia, in 1999, I specialized in information security. My dissertation work was generously sponsored by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Security Agency (NSA), and the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL). Before I joined the iSchool, I did research in information security at NRL’s Center for High Assurance Computer Systems (CHACS) as a principal research scientist.
